A Strong Tower

A Devotional on Proverbs 18:10

When life is overwhelming. When fear presses in. When your heart is aching.

When the mountains seem impossible to climb. When the enemy is whispering lies. When hope looks bleak.

In these moments, when you just need somewhere to turn.

Where can you run?

Or, to whom can you run?

“The name of the LORD is a strong tower; the righteous man runs into it and is safe” (Proverbs 18:10).

The LORD Almighty – His name is strong. His love is steadfast and sure. His grace abounds. The name of the LORD is a strong tower. He is firm, reliable, and trustworthy. He offers shelter and security. Those who run to this mighty fortress are safe.

And did you catch that? It is the righteous man who runs to God.

But who is the righteous man? Can we come to this mighty God?

Friend, it is our Savior Jesus who has made us righteous! Because of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, the complete and finished work of the cross, not only are our sins forgiven, but we are given the righteousness of Christ (2 Corinthians 5:21).

The Father has looked upon the perfect work of the Son, and it is the Son who stands in our place. His righteousness has become our own. We are justified by our faith in Christ. We are wiped clean of our stains, and we are given robes of pure white.

So we can run to Him. We can run to Jesus.

Like seeking shelter when it starts to rain, Jesus provides protection and safety in times of trouble or despair.

God is not promising that every problem will disappear, or that no trial will come upon you. We can run to Jesus knowing that we are safe with Him, and that no matter what we face, we dwell secure in Christ.

And what’s more, Jesus wants us to come to Him.

God is full of grace and love for His children. Scripture tells us the Lord takes pleasure in those who fear him, in those who hope in his steadfast love (Psalm 147:11). When we approach Christ in faith, trusting and hoping in Him, it pleases God! It is His love for us that draws us close.

So don’t wait.

Run to Jesus. His Name is a strong tower. You can run to Him and dwell safely.
